Abstract
Background: Asthma is a common respiratory disease, and various factors are involved in its development. This study investigated the association between soft drink consumption and asthma among Korean adults.

Methods: The 6th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted from 2013 to 2015 included a survey of food intake frequency among participants aged 19 to 64 years. Among them, 9,244 participants who answered both questions about asthma history and soft drink intake were included in the study. The association between asthma and several variables such as age, sex, education level, household income level, smoking, obesity, physical activity, and soft drink consumption was analyzed via multivariate logistic regression analysis.

Results: Of the participants, 222 people (2.4%; standard error, 0.2) were diagnosed with asthma. There was a positive correlation between asthma and variables including obesity (odds ratio [OR], 1.47; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.06?2.04), and intake of soft drink of more than two cups a day (vs. never,
Conclusion: Our findings suggest that excessive soft drink consumption may be associated with asthma in Korean adults.
